The Quest Pro is the first device to be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ platform, which Meta has also confirmed. According to the tech giant, this platform is optimised for virtual reality and can “run at 50% more power than Meta Quest 2 with better thermal dissipation.”   Quest Pro has 10% more pixels per degree and 37% more pixels per inch than the Meta Quest 2. With circular lenses and a curved-cell battery on the back, the Quest Pro is more compact and slimmer than the Quest 2. The controllers that come with the Quest Pro are referred to as Touch Pro controllers, and they each include built-in sensors that let you track your position in three dimensions. According to Meta, the controllers are made to offer reliable stacking for “all of your VR apps.” The enhanced haptics in the Quest Pro controllers, which are comparable to those in Sony’s PSVR2 controllers, should further increase interaction.  The Quest Pro’s marketing makes it apparent that it is primarily intended for business customers, although some of the additional capabilities are also likely to thrill gamers. With the ability to see other players’ expressions in virtual reality games, Meta demonstrated new avatars made to capitalise on the eye and face tracking features of the new headset. These features may result in more lifelike interactions between players.  In addition to the announcement of Meta Quest Pro, Microsoft has announced that Meta Quest will now support Xbox Cloud Gaming. Preorders for the Meta Quest Pro start at $1,499.99 and the product launches on October 25. Since the device doesn’t appear to offer many gaming-specific improvements over its predecessor, Meta may have a hard time persuading gamers to spend $1,500 on it.  –Meta
